THE SYMPOSIUM

UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE HELLENIC NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR UNESCO, THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND SPORT AND THE MUNICIPALITY OF ANCIENT OLYMPIA

The 2nd Annual World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium is being held on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. The Symposium is a contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals promoting “Education 2030” focused on SDG 4.7 as well as SDG17. The Symposium is also supported by the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC), the International Olympic Academy, the European Parliament Information Office in Greece and the Hellenic Association of Political Scientists.The official language of the Symposium is English.

THE DURATION

DURATION OF THE SYMPOSIUM IS 5 DAYS, 10 – 14 APRIL 2019

The Opening Ceremony will take place in Athens on the 10th April 2019. All delegations will depart for Ancient Olympia on the 11th April in the morning. The Symposium Center is the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia.

Welcomed Participations

In the Annual World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium are welcome to participate teachers and students (older than 12 years – 7th Grade) of:

  • Schools (members or nonmembers of the UNESCO Associated School Project Network – ASPnet)
  • Universities
  • Educational or cultural organizations and associations from all around the world

All participants will receive a participation certificate signed by the President of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO and the Organizers.

THE DEADLINE FOR THE PARTICIPATION FORM SUBMISSION

15TH OF JANUARY 2019

The participation forms must be completed and sent until the 15th of January 2019. However, since the number of participants is limited, should the participants have reached the number of 250 earlier than the 15th of January, no further applications will be accepted.

RESERVATION OF PARTICIPATIONS SEATS

FOR 30 DAYS UNTIL THE END OF NOVEMBER

Given the limitation of the total number of the participants, those schools interested in attending the Symposium, have the chance to reserve participations seats for 30 days until the end of November. In such a case, please contact the Head of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Vasilis Papalyberis (vp@olympiayouthsymposium.com). The reservation is valid only for 30 days. After the 30th day, the application form has to be submitted or the reservation will be canceled. No reservations are going to be accepted after the end of November 2018.

FREE PARTICIPATION

FOR NATIONAL COORDINATORS AND TEACHERS

The organizers provide, under certain conditions, free participation to National Coordinators and teachers. You can see the details here.

DELEGATION OF HONOR

DELEGATION OF HONOR 2019

Each year the national delegation with the most participants in the Symposium (excluding the Hellenic delegation) is the next year’s “Delegation of Honor”. The “Delegation of Honor” participates very actively in the organization of the Symposium (opening ceremony, workshops, activities, etc). The Organizers also cover all expenses (air tickets and participation fee) of the National Coordinator of the “Delegation of Honor”. A national delegation can become “Delegation of Honor” only once within 5 years. In 2018, the biggest national delegation (excluding the Hellenic delegation) was the delegation from Costa Rica. Therefore, Costa Rica is the “Delegation of Honor” for 2019.

THE OLYMPIA YOUTH SYMPOSIUM DECLARATION

protection of the World Cultural Heritage

Before the end of the Symposium, the participants will sign a resolution on the protection of the World Cultural Heritage. The Ancient Olympia Youth Declaration will condemn any assaults and crimes committed against World Heritage sites and focus on the fight against any attack on cultural diversity. The Declaration, after the end of the World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium, will be sent to UNESCO.
